Subject pronouns

The nine words you need before you can conjugate any verb.

In English, "I" / "you" / "he" / "she" — these are subject pronouns. French has nine of them, with two important twists. Vous means both formal "you" and plural "you all". On is a casual stand-in for nous (very common in spoken French). Each pronoun pairs a person (1st / 2nd / 3rd) with a number (singular / plural).
